Yet Another True Story About Stupid Studies:

Wednesday, August 28, 2002

So I just got off the phone with this nice lady in New York City who is trying to confirm a reservation for September 15, and I tell her, "No, we won't be able to come; my wife doesn't want to be in New York City so close to September 11."

She says, "Do you want to reschedule?"

I say, "Yes, but I need to talk to her about the dates. Can I call you back?"

She says, "So you want to leave the date confirmed?"

I say, "No, like I just said, we will definitely not be coming on September 15, didn't I just say that?" She says, "I'll need to have a reason why you are cancelling."

So I say, "Didn't I just open this conversation by telling you that?"

She says, "Yes, but I need to ask you again."

I ask, "Did you forget?"

She says, "No."

I say, "OK, then you know why."

She says, "I need to ask you again."

I ask if I need to tell her again and she says I do. So I do. I ask her if I need to tell her again. She seems confused, and a little upset, "No, you just told me."

"Well," I say, "When I just told you before, you nonetheless needed me to tell you again, so I just wanted to make sure we were all set today. So, like, if you really want to ask again, I promise, I'll tell you again. Do you know why we aren't coming on September 15th?"

Notice to ALL Pinheads

I have reached the maximum monthly legal allowance for incoming stupid behavior for the month of August 2002, and shall accept no more, on any account, until Tuesday, September 3, 2002 at 10:00 AM. Should you find yourselves in a dire stupidity emergency, please think before opening your piehole, try to deal, or hold it until next week.... yeah, hold it.... between your knees.
