Rapper Obie Trice Shot in Detroit

Damn, shot in Detroit... and, you know how painful that can be... and not just once or twice... poor Mr. Obie.

DETROIT - Obie Trice was shot early Saturday while driving on a city highway, police said. Trice, a Detroit native and protege of Eminem, was on the Lodge Freeway at about 1:10 a.m. when his vehicle was shot at by someone in another car, said Michigan State Police Sgt. Mario Gonzales

Oh, wait... never mind.

Sauce for the PC Festively Diverse Season...

Now, the Town of Medway, MA is under fire for banning any reference to Christmas in its annual Holiday Concert. This, along with a hideously wrong decision to call Christmas Trees Magical Trees is ludicrous, wrong headed, and sweet payback for the rest of the bowdlerization, sanitation and BS that passes for politically correct or diverse these days.

If, as in Newton this year, we were not allowed to dress in costume, offer Mars Bars and Candy Corn to our lord Zool, and chant our holy Trick or Treat prayer, why should Christmas be acknowledged in Milton?

The Medway Middle School ordered children not to sing any religious songs in Friday's holiday concert. Students were also told to refer to Christmas trees as magical trees. Red hats have also been banned.

The move comes after two parents complained about references to Christmas in the program.

The Superintendent Richard Grandmont told the Milford Daily News that the town is embracing diversity.

Diversity? Sounds like homogenization and blandness to me. What exactly is diverse about removing any and all reference to any and all diversity, and replacing it all with uniformity and blandness?

Diversity is about enjoying latkes and haldiram rasgulla, fruitcakes and ambrosia, Christmas Trees, Menorahs and Kinaras. OK, not fruitcakes...

But one parent said he's disturbed that students can't sing "We Wish You a Merry Christmas." Instead, they have to sing "We Wish You A Swinging Holiday"

Yeah, baby...And a boogie-woogie New Year! One parent? That's all? I would hope that it might have been all but one parent, that parent being the dunderhead who complained in the first place. What's wrong with a holiday medley? "We Wish You A Merry Christmas," "Have a Holly, Jolly Diwali," "Dreidel, Dreidel, Dreidel." Sorry goyim... You got fruitcake, we got Dreidel, Dreidel, Dreidel.

[An Aside: Why is it that the world's oldest continuously running monotheistic religion has come up with only one song, and one of the worst songs of all time, for their holiday? Perhaps some dig the Dada/minimalist construction where the verse is the chorus and the chorus is the verse and second verse is same as the first... but I digress from my Aside. Well, ok, more than one song, but Adam Sandler's Chanukah Song and Sarah Silverman's Give The Jew Girl Toys don't really seem like middle school choral group material. With the president of ASCAP, Doc Pomus, George Gershwin, Oscar Hammerstein, Irving Berlin, Leonard Bernstein all being M.O.T., all we get is "Dreidel dreidel dreidel, I made it out of clay and when it's dry and ready then dreidel I will play, Oh...D.C. al Coda?" Y'know what, all the dreidels I've ever seen are made out of plastic or wood. I've never seen a freakin' clay dreidel - I think they've got it confused with fruitcake.]

People, its just not that hard. I'm the first guy to complain when some knuckleheaded or obnoxious chaplain invokes our lord and savior, Jesus Christ at a public gathering where Mr. Christ is neither everyone's lord nor savior. Understand, I don't want to be included in a collective prayer to a specific god, unless he or she is the one that I worship.

On the other hand, how can a Christmas Tree suddenly become a Magical Tree? It has been, and always will be a symbol of Christmas. Unlike Intelligent Design, this is plain and simple fact. Hey, are we now going to call the menorah a Magical Lamp? No, it is, and always has been, a symbol of Chanukah. Calling it one does not make you a Jew. Hi Kwanzaa guy, I really love your magical hat. How can the same people who want Harry Potter banned from the public library live with this?

So, can we get together on this and accept the difference between signs and symbols of diversity, and imposing our beliefs (or non-beliefs) on others? I want you to have a Merry Christmas, if you want to have one. I will be pleased to have a Happy Chanukah and would be happy to receive your wishes for me to have one. And the same for Diwali, and the same for Kwanzaa, and the same for anyone else celebrating anything else around now who has been too meek, or perhaps too smart, to pipe up. I celebrate your celebration - will you celebrate mine? That's embracing diversity.

However, in keeping with the niceties that we have enjoyed from time immemorial, and best illustrated by the practice of saying "Oh what a beautiful baby," unless we have been told or have determined after close personal inspection the sex of the child, let us continue to wish each other a "Happy Holiday" or "Season's Greetings" when we pass each other as strangers at Walmart. To do otherwise, as with the baby, is presumptuous, at best.

No matter how many times you tell me, I'm just not going to have a Merry Christmas, and no matter how many times I tell you, you're never going to be able to say Chanukah correctly.

Former Senator Proxmire dies at 90

The world has lost another great man.

First, he replaced Joe McCarthy in the Senate in 1957. That alone would qualify him for greatness in my book.

But, I grew through early adulthood thoroughly enjoying Senator Proxmire's annual Golden Fleece Award, given for thirteen consecutive years to wasteful programs funded by the US Government.

Unafraid to stand up against LBJ and the Viet Nam war, Proxmire was also a stalwart and stubborn proponent of an anti-genocide treaty; starting in 1967 he gave a speech in its favor, every day that the US Senate was in session. In 1986, the measure passed, after some 3,000 Proxmire speeches.

Proxmire also opposed, and did not accept campaign contributions in his last two elections. Spending well under $500 of his own money, Proxmire handily won his final two re-election bids.

As host of the YATSASS Reports, I have been long telling friends that I would start winnowing down the many YATSASSes highlighted in this column from month to month and choose a YATSASS of the Year. Although I have not yet undertaken that process, I regret now that I had not at least made my choice for the name of the award public before now.

Not that Mr. Proxmire needed any more affirmation of his lasting greatness, or that mine would measure up to those to come in the days to follow, but my friends know - and I wish he knew - that I have long intended to call that award The Proxie.

R.I.P. Senator William Proxmire

Greasy Dago court rules 'Dirty negro' insult not always racist

Yeah, um sure... it could be a term of endearment like my little money-grubbing Kike or you cute faggot.

While, for reasons not comprehensible to this honkey, I pretty much thought that unless a person of color calls another person of color Nigger or one gay person calls another gay or thought-to-be-gay person Queer, or one person of (x) extraction jokingly refered to a close friend of (x) extraction to his or her face as an epithet for (x) extraction, what we had was racist or sexist hate speech.

While the laws and customs of Italy may differ from the laws and customs of the United States, I think we know who's are right... or let's just say Afghanistan and Iraq are finding out right now... No! Wait, I meant to say...

The court held:

...an insult should be judged racist "only if it is motivated by real hatred," or is likely to cause racial hatred in others or lead to "discriminatory behavior for reasons of race, ethnicity, nationality or religion," the court ruled.

Interesting decision... I'd be curious to see how those wops define real hatred. Wouldn't the fact that the defendants were punching the dirty negros show that the macaroni niggers were motivated by real hatred? Maybe I'll call my Hymie lawyer and find out. That bloodsucker should know.

Or maybe that's just the way a Goomba says Hi? I'm going to call one of my mick or kraut friends and see if they know.

Bosom Buddies' Wendie Jo Sperber Dies of Breast Cancer

Saw Alannis Morisette on the Jimmy Kimmel Show last night. Thought about how she had a hit called Ironic which included no ironies in it's lyrics.

Merriam-Webster says irony is:

the use of words to express something other than and especially the opposite of the literal meaning

Alanis sings:

It's like rain on your wedding day
It's a free ride when you've already paid
It's the good advice that you just didn't take
Who would've thought...it figures

No, babe. It don't figger. Shouldn't this song have been called A Random Series of Unfortunate Events?

Regardless, I think that when the star of Bosom Buddies dies from Breast Cancer it is both unfortunate and ironic. I could be wrong.
