Wed Sep 8, 2004 07:05 PM ET LONDON (Reuters) Half of British fathers either continue to doze or pretend to be asleep when their babies cry during the night, making many mothers resentful, a survey released on Thursday shows. In addition to the 52 percent of dads who do not get up with their wailing children, a further 22 percent only get up after their partner has already crawled out of bed...The lack of support leaves six in 10 mothers feeling bitter toward their partners."

Shocked that this information required a survey. Thankfully it was conducted by a magazine, and thus not at public expense. Nonetheless, it would seem that quantifying the percentage of resentment is a bit of a waste of time. Anecdotal evidence is probably all that is needed. And, based on such evidence, I'd say that quite a few more than 50% of the dads fake, and that if only 6 in 10 mothers feel "bitter" than the other 4 must feel outright hate and contempt.
